T minus 1 – Houston, we have a problem

Feeling refreshed at 4am after a good nights sleep, starting to lag again as we catch the flight to Biarritz at 9am.

We get off the plane, go to the luggage carousel and watch a few bags come out, get collected and the carousel stop. Fi and I look around and there are a number of fellow passengers with puzzled looks starting to get that sinking feeling.

The very helpful lady at the information desk informs us our bags were not on the flight and files a lost luggage report.

At this point I recall the words of the basque philosopher Bernard-Paul Heroux

There is no trouble so great or grave that cannot be much diminished by a nice cup of tea.

So we go and get a nice cup of tea.

After meeting 2 girls from Slovenia who had the same problem I am now advising people to carry their hiking shoes in hand luggage. – BIG hand luggage, small backpack when flying. It makes it easier when critical and tested stuff stays with you.
Anyway, hope your kit turns up soon!

    Hi Guys,

So sorry to hear about the unexpected delay to your plans & do hope that things will fall back into place quickly.

On the eve of commencing this epic adventure. I encourage you both, to consider taking the first & last steps in unison. A poignant way to highlight the significance of your combined efforts thus far to not only greet this challenge; but also to mark the team effort it will take to conquer the physical demands of your journey & finally, to celebrate a partnership that I know you both cherish. Happy travelling!

    With kind regards,
    Julie Attenborough
