Day Two

Roncesvalles to Larrasoaña

I was awake wondering what time people got up in the monastery albergue when all the lights came on at 6am sharp. No messing around here!

Fi cooked up some porridge, amaranth and chia seeds that we had brought with us for breakfast and we were out the door walking by 6.50am.

A reminder of the distance greeted us as we began.

We walked through the dawn together.

Bought some fruit at a well stocked shop a few kilometres from Roncesvalles.

Through the lovely villages of Burguete and Aurizberri.

We stopped for tea and then walked through Viscarret, Linzoáin and Zubiri.

With hindsight we should have stayed at Zubiri because it was getting hot and the hills were steep. But we walked on to Larrasoaña – which, as we discovered, is mostly closed on a Wednesday!

Today we covered over 27km of hilly terrain in 9 hours of walking.

We met some likeable characters that we just clicked with and were touched by anecdotes that were shared. We have been moved by more than just our feet.
