Day Ten

Ventosa to Santo Domingo de la Calzada

Finally the heatwave broke! Clouds  covered the stars and by the time we walked the 12km to Nájera for breakfast there was a light drizzle in the air.

Yes, that’s right, 12km before breakfast! Today we laugh in the face of distance!

The first section this morning took us through an industrialised area and there were a lot of roads nearby so we did well to get past this by torch light.

Nájera

Some things you can be sure about even though you haven’t seen them. The sunrise was one of these things today.

A grey blanket of clouds kept us cool all day.

We met more people doing short stages of the Camino, walking for a week and then returning next year to continue their journey.

The kilometres flew past until we reached Santo Domingo de la Calzada, seen here at the end of a long road…

We finished around 35km by 1.30pm after just under 8 hours of walking with breaks.

There were a lot of wheat fields and rolling hills. More built up areas and roads. It feels quite different to Navarra. I guess the nature of the journey is change.
