Day Twenty Four

Sunrise, colours change but
The sky stays the same
Body dies but soul remains

– Kindergood

Villar de Mazarife to Santibañez

Walking through the dawn and witnessing start of a new day I can understand why birds sing. Just after sunrise we arrived at Rio Orbigo and the stone bridge that crosses the river with 22 arches. We stopped to admire the bridge with a second breakfast.

Then on along railway tracks and across fields to Santibañez.

I’m getting the feeling to slow down and do less km’s each day to savour and perhaps prolong our days left on the Camino.

As the hills slowly approached us it was with some sadness I said goodbye to the plains of the Meseta. I have thoroughly enjoyed this part of our journey and look back on it with fondness. Climbing the first hill for sometime it feels like a new stage has begun.

We covered 21km today with so much ease the pains from yesterday seem like an age ago.
