Day Forty

The circle almost drawn
The end and the beginning
Or a spiral takes form

Santa Mariña to Logoso

Despite dawdling around at breakfast it was still dark when we left. Sunrise has got 1 1/2 hours later since we started in August. The mist was particularly thick this morning and we could only see 3 metres in front of us for some time. It made for a unique and surreal experience.

We helped an Italian pilgrim who was a bit lost as we had GPS. He later thanked us with crystallised ginger when we had stopped for a snack at what looked like an ancient stone table.

We met a few pilgrims walking back to Santiago and were delighted to see Albert from Sweden who we had met many times before. He looked very relaxed and happy.

After going through Olveiroa the way went steep up hill and the scenery changed from woodland to scrubland. It was now sunny and the views had expanded. We stopped in the small village of Logoso and rested up for the remainder of the day, starting to wind down the daily km’s.

We covered 16km today and we have 28km to go to the end of the earth.

A mixed range of feelings well up as I contemplate reaching the threshold of this pilgrimage. I wonder how it will feel to gaze over the ocean.
