We found our way out of town going toward Surgères but the markers disappeared and the instructions were lost in translation. We used an app called Komoot to find the way – thanks Rowan from the Blue Mountains for putting us on to that! After 6.5 km we found a Camino marker and another 4.5km from that. It seems the way is not well marked on this section. We made it into Surgères after walking 16km.
We’ve been looking at the stages ahead and in the time we have to get to Saint Jean Pied de Port we’re not going to make it so we’ve decided to adapt, adjust and accommodate and cycle some of the way. So we’re going to buy two bicycles and cycle until we get back on schedule. As fortune would have it I have a good friend, Clive, that I’ve not seen for 20 years that lives near where the nearest bicycle shops are – La Rochelle. So we caught the train from Surgères for a 20 minute journey to La Rochelle and go in search of bicycles!
I’m looking forward to catching up with Clive over the weekend and taking a few days rest before we start our cycling sojourn.
