The French Chapter – Day 43 – Gujan-Mestras to Biscarrosse

A thunderstorm delayed our early morning departure and we started at 9am in the rain. The forecast is for rain and thunderstorms all day. We cycle out of Gujan-Mestras and the cycle path runs parallel to road for quite a while. It’s noticeable how bad cars smell after cycling though pine forest for a couple of days.

We pass Dune du Pilat in the rain and carry on south. The path takes us through forests, past beaches and over dunes, some of them a tough peddle to go up. At the top of one of the highest Fi discovered she had a flat front tyre. I pulled out a staple and pumped it up hoping the leak would be slow. We made it to a beautiful lake – Petit étang de Biscarrosse where I fixed the puncture and the sun came out! We followed a canal to Biscarrosse and found a room in a hotel (€100).

We cycled 52 km in rain and thunderstorms, got soaked through, fixed a puncture, had a great takeaway vegan burger from yesterday’s restaurant and enjoyed the scenery.
