The Spanish Chapter – Day 27 – Astorga to Rabanal Del Camino

We left Astorga at dawn and were soon at the city limit and in the countryside. It was a gentle climb most of the day, passing places we were recognised from 2016. The path was mostly dirt and stones. The sun was harsh with no shade. We made it to Rabanal just after 11am and it was already too hot. We had a great vegan meal at El Refugio Hosteria before we checked in to the Stone Boat Guesthouse for Pilgrims at 2pm.

We are staying in a beautiful stone guesthouse (€55) run by a kind soul, Kim.

Just up the street is El Refugio Hosteria which is the first place we’ve seen on the Camino that has a vegan pilgrims menu and it was fantastic! Times are changing.

By the time we had eaten the place was packed by locals.

Tomorrow we walk up to the Cruz de Ferro, the highest point on the Camino de Santiago.
