Since I have started walking regularly I have come to appreciate the importance of quick drying and wicking clothes.
In case you are not familiar with what “wicking” fabrics are – they draw moisture (sweat) from your body to the exterior of the fabric where it can evaporate. So they help to keep you dry and more comfortable.
They are generally made from synthetic materials and are light. They can also be expensive but in my opinion are worth it.
I always liked wearing cotton clothing because it felt cool but once I’ve walked up a sweat my cotton clothes stayed wet. Cotton is not the best fabric to wear when walking.
Now my socks, boxers, trousers/shorts, t-shirts and long sleeved shirts are all made from wicking fabrics. The added benefit is after I wash them they dry very quickly. So I’m planning on taking only two sets of clothes on the Camino – one to wear and one to get changed into after washing the clothes I have walked in each day. This will help to keep the weight of my pack down.
