We caught the first ferry across the river and started cycling at 7.45am from Verdon-Sur-Mer.
We picked up the “Voie du Soulac” Camino markers along the EV 1 route. The path took us along railway tracks, over dunes, along roads. It was a hot sunny day and we made good progress. The cicadas sang their hot song to us most of the way. We stopped for a coffee in Montalivet and had a picnic lunch at the first park bench we saw which was over 60km into the day! We looked for accommodation and found a room in Lacanau (€175) which was a hilly 10-13km away. It was really hot by then but this was the closest we could find. We made it by 3pm, the hottest part of the day (33 degrees C). I can’t believe we covered 85km today!
The hotel is in the middle of a golf course so we had to talk with the chef to get a vegetarian meal.
